About Us

Happy Hour Fabric - Formerly Handcraft Happy Hour

Happy Hour Fabric (formerly Handcraft Happy Hour) is a modern fabric shop with sewing classes and meetups in Baltimore’s Woodberry/Hampden neighborhood, located at Meadow Mill next to the Woodberry Light Rail stop with free parking and an accessible entrance. We’re a welcoming place for quilters, sewists, hand stitchers and curious beginners alike.

Our favorite way to decompress isn’t found at the bottom of a glass—it’s found at the end of a seam.

More than a fabric shop, Happy Hour Fabric is a place to slow down, make something meaningful, and connect with other creative people. We host sewing classes, quilting workshops and hand stitching meetups because learning with others makes the creative process even better. Whether you’re stopping in for fabric or notions, joining Friday Night Stitch Club, or trying your very first sewing class, we hope you leave feeling inspired, refreshed, and confident.

We specialize in thoughtfully curated fabrics for modern and art quilters, garment sewing and bag making. Our shelves are filled with high-quality quilting cottons, modern prints, seasonal collections, cotton wovens, a wall of Art Gallery Pure Solids, linen blends, knits, flannel, canvas, and sewing supplies chosen with both beauty and function in mind. Whether you’re planning a quilt, sewing a handmade wardrobe, or searching for a perfect finishing detail, we love helping makers find exactly what they need.

Hand stitching holds a special place in our hearts. From sashiko and embroidery to visible mending and hand quilting, we carry tools, templates, kits, and supplies for slow crafting projects that invite you to pause and enjoy the process.

Need inspiration for your next project? Browse our collection of sewing patterns, quilting books, kits, and creative samples throughout the shop. Helping customers discover a project they’re excited about is genuinely our favorite part of the job.

At the heart of the shop is The Stitch Easy, our classroom and community space where makers gather to learn new skills, share ideas, and make friends along the way. Join us for beginner sewing classes, quilting workshops, garment sewing, Sashiko, Crafty Hour or finish your WIPS at Friday Night Stitch Club.

Happy Hour House Rules

To keep the machines humming and our community thriving, we live by a few simple stitches:
  • A Seat for Every Maker: Whether you’re a total beginner or a seasoned pro, we lead with kindness and respect. This is a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community and makers of all backgrounds. We celebrate the thread that connects us all.
  • No Spilling Secrets: We love seeing your projects online, but please ask for consent before taking photos or videos of others.
  • Tools for the Whole Table: Our machines and notions in the studio are shared and meant to last for rounds to come. Handle them with care, ensuring every member of our community has a reliable tool ready for their next stitch.
  • The "Bobbin Chicken" Spirit: Don’t be afraid to try a new technique or ask for advice. We celebrate the "wonky" seams as much as the perfect ones.
  • Your Story, Your Signature: This is your space to find inspiration and unplug. While we learn together, we celebrate the individual signature you’re stitching into every project

Our Story

Happy Hour Fabric began as Handcraft Happy Hour in 2020 as a small online fabric shop started by Jenni during the COVID pandemic. Part creative lifeline, part excuse to surround herself with beautiful fabric, and a way to help others rediscover joy through sewing and making.

After moving to Baltimore in 2023, Jenni began searching for the perfect place to turn the online shop into a real-life community space. In January 2024, Handcraft Happy Hour opened its doors at Meadow Mill and quickly became more than just a fabric shop. Along the way, amazing friendships and creative connections helped shape what the shop is becoming today.

One of those connections started in an airport on the way to H+H, where Jenni met Ellen. What began as a chance meeting grew into a friendship, creative partnership, and shared vision. At the end of 2025, Ellen officially joined as partner. Together their love of making and Baltimore is fueling their vision of bringing the community together one stitch at a time.

Today,Happy Hour Fabric (New name, same stitches) continues to grow as a welcoming space for Baltimore’s quilters, sewists and makers to find their creative spark, learn and make new friends. Jenni and Ellen have big dreams for the future, to create a third place for makers as unique as Baltimore with a shop where you’ll find the inspiration, supplies, knowledge and community to make our corner of the world a brighter place.
