Alterations Workshop

What you will be doing: We’ll start with a quick, hands-on alterations lesson, then jump into mending, tweaking, and transforming your pieces. Simple fixes can often be wrapped up in the 90-minute session, while bigger projects may need a take-home “game plan” from your instructor. You’ll also pick up tips and tricks by watching other participants’ projects in action.
What do you bring?:
-
A few garments/items that need some love!
-
Any additional materials needed (buttons, zippers, patch fabric, etc.).
-
Matching thread
-
Sewing machine in good working order. Much like driving, we find it’s best to learn on what machine you have available to you! Please be sure to bring the foot pedal, power cord, machine manual, and all accessories. If you do not have your own sewing machine you may rent one during class for an additional fee.
Examples of Suitable Projects:
- Replacing buttons or fixing zippers
- Hemming, shortening, or lengthening garments
- Repairing tears or worn areas
- Taking in or letting out seams
- Adjusting waistbands
- Small tweaks to improve fit or silhouette
