Sport Shorts

What you will be doing: 

Whether you plan to spend your summer lounging poolside or out on adventures, the Sport Shorts from Friday Pattern Company are sure to be your perfect companion! With a fun, sporty vibe these shorts are fun to make and wear. The contrasting binding adds a ton of personality and allows for infinite combinations of colors and prints. With oodles of bias binding, slash pockets, and an elastic waistband with a drawstring, this class will cover many foundational garment sewing skills.

Skills you'll learn:

• Taking your measurements, choosing a size

• Basic fit adjustments (including grading between sizes, lengthening/shortening)

• Constructing slash pockets

• Making bias binding

• Binding curved edges

• Elastic waistbands

• Making and inserting drawstrings

• Finishing seams

• Buttonholes

• Topstitching

What do you bring: (All supplies are available in shop and can be purchased with a 10% class discount.)

• A copy of the Sport Shorts pattern by Friday Pattern Company (pay what you can). This pattern is available online in sizes XS-7X (up to a 63” hip). We’ll print the pattern files for you! Mikayla will provide more info closer to. 

• Lightweight to midweight woven fabric according to your measurements. You’ll want one main fabric and a second accent fabric for the waistband and binding.

• ¾” bias tape maker (or pre-made bias tape).

• 1.5” waistband elastic

• All purpose cotton or polyester thread

• Small scrap lightweight fusible interfacing

• Tracing paper and writing utensils (optional but helpful)

• Sewing machine in good working order. Much like driving, we find it’s best to learn on what machine you have available to you! Please be sure to bring the foot pedal, power cord, machine manual, and all accessories. If you do not have your own sewing machine you may rent one during class for an additional fee.

• Basic sewing tools (Including fabric scissors, thread snips, seam ripper, and fabric marking tools. We have some classroom supplies available, however it may be helpful to have your own tools).

* This class is designed for age 16+
* Cancellation Notice: We kindly ask that makers give a minimum 1 week notice of cancellation for class credit/reschedule and a 2 week cancellation notice for full refund. This advance notice will allow us to make any necessary adjustments to our schedule and accommodate other makers.

Refunds: Class cancellations made with a 2 week notice or more will either receive a full refund on a gift card, or a full refund minus the $5 card processing fee to the card that was used to purchase the class registration. This fee accounts for the costs associated with the transaction and ensures a smooth and secure refund process. Multi-week courses fill more slowly and a 72 hour notice (current single class policy) is not enough time to fill an empty spot.
